Mother's Day

I am so grateful to have a wonderful husband and wonderful children and grandchlldren!!! Melanie and Michelle came to our church and then April and Bill came after their church. We had steak, potatoes, salad, and dessert. Bill grilled the steaks perfectly! The potatoes, I had cooked before church. Sam made the salad, and Austin helped me make Peach Crisp and the Cherry Pineapple Dessert before Church. It was all delicious and I loved being with my family. We played games! What a great day!

Journals

My new calling is Laurel advisor in our ward. Our lesson was on Journals. Okay, so I haven't been writing. I am repenting today. We had a great lesson. I love these girls. They shared awesome stuff about their lives, baptism, how they journal, and how they feel. It was cool to hear how one yw was baptized in the morning, so that she could be eight, the required age to attend the Houston Texas Temple Dedication. She remembers it was on her baptism day. We talked about the video I showed about Stephanie Nielson's plane crash and her faith in Jesus Christ and support of her family through all her trials, and she keeps blogging. NC ZOO

For Spring break, we decided to go to the Zoo. We loved going to the zoo when the children were younger and I wanted to go to some sites that we close in location (1 1/2 hours to Asheboro) to get to know where we live.

Tony, April, Mazie, Ace, Leiana, Austin, Sam, and I drove to the zoo in our van and April's hummer.

We didn't get to see everything although we spent hours there, because we had to get home.  We can come back because we joined the Zoological Society. We didn't have time to see the elephants, so we will be back.

Christmas 2009

We had a wonderful Christmas with all our family. Melanie, April, Bill, Mazie, Ace, and Jennifer came for Christmas Eve Nativity and Christmas morning. Abby, Jeff, Cody, and Caitlyn drove from St. Louis and arrived Christmas Evening. Heather, Brian, Eli, Gabe, Kelli, Matt, and Kylee drove from PA and arrived on Saturday. We had presents opened each time another family came. We had so much fun being together. The guys went paintballing on Saturday and they were worn out. We just enjoyed being together. Some of our family members we hadn't seen in so long, and we just met Jeff, Cody, and Caitlyn.

Sara and Corey White were married May 24, 2009. Sara is Tony's youngest sister. Sara and Corey work in Wyoming and live in Utah. They were married on the beach and then had they reception in the Office Quarters at Camp LeJeune in Jacksonville, NC.

A Visit to Utah

I was planning a visit to Utah on Feb. 26th, but Kelli was in the hospital with gallstones. She was in Labor and Delivery, but she was only 26 weeks along. The were monitoring the baby while she was in such bad pain from the gallstones. The doctors would have removed the gallbladder if she wasn't pregnant. I flew in on Tuesday, Feb. 24th and by Thursday, she had passed the stone, so that she could return home. We were so grateful!
On Friday, we went to see Joe perform, "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown!" He was Snoopy. He did a great job!!!

Sam's Birthday Family Celebration

On January 26th, Sam turned 17. Our children are growing way too fast. We had a family party celebration. Tony is sitting next to him. It was eleven days after surgery. He is doing so good. He hasn't had any pain, except one night when he slept the wrong way his chest was hurting all day afterwards. Now, he won't be sleeping like that anymore. He is able to sleep better in the recliner we bought him. He is improving and trying to walk a little more each day.

I know prayers are answered. I know He loves us and wants us to be happy. I know we must trust in Him no matter what the outcome.

Tony's Hospital Stay

Well, Tony started having chest pains and thought they were his gallbladder, since he had had them before, 2 years ago. Gallbladder problems seem to run in the family, so it was a natural conclusion. He had 5 episodes during the weekend. They would last about 5 minutes, then he would feel fine, so he thought the gall stones were being dislodged. He said it felt like heartburn then moved to his back. On Monday morning, Jan. 12th, I took him to the ER in Jacksonville. They did an ultrasound and confirmed gall stones and thickening of the gallbladder wall. We went to an appointment with the surgeon on Tuesday. He asked a lot of questions, like do you get these pains after exertion, etc. Tony just went up our small ladder to take down Christmas lights on the eves on Saturday. The surgeon said he would schedule the gallbladder removal in about 3-4 weeks. Tony kept thinking about the questions and called the surgeon back to tell him that he was worried about his heart. The surgeon set up an appointment with the cardiologist on Thursday at 1:00. Meanwhile, the pains were getting more frequent and Tony couldn't even walk around the house without hurting. While in the office, the doctor did a rough test. He gave Tony a nitroglycerin pill. This took effect in minutes and asked Tony to walk up and down the hall of the office to see if the pain was relieved. He said he felt great. The doctor set up a stress test for the following day at 10:00am and said he wanted Tony to go directly to the hospital from the office, because he did not want him to have a heart attack. Well, they did tests as soon as we entered and late that night, the doctor told us Tony had had a mild heart attack already and that he needed to go to Greenville, NC to East Carolina Heart Institute at Pitt Co. Memorial Hospital(the best in East Carolina). He was transported the next morning to put stints into his arteries that were blocked. Part of the procedure for stints is a dye test into the arteries to see where the blockage is. Tony had 100% blockage in one and 85-95% in another. There are only 3 main arteries going to the heart and evidently, he has had this blockage for some time now. Because he plays sports with his kids, small arteries(country roads) were developed through the years to help get blood to the heart. These small arteries became blocked as well from the 85-95% blocked artery and caused a minor heart attack. This was such a blessing, because it would have been fatal the doctor said if he hadn't developed the small arteries. Yes, keep exercising to be healthy.
So, we had to wait 5 days to get bypass surgery, because they had giving him an anti-clogging drug on Friday. They monitored him the whole time. He was stir crazy waiting and not knowing when surgery would be.
Fortunately, our bishop, also our home teacher, came Thursday night to give us blessings. He said that Tony would do fine throughout this and recover well. We trusted in Heavenly Father and our faith and prayers from all of you has pulled us through all of this. The surgery was on Wednesday morning and Dr. Kypson said it went well with no complications. We are so blessed to be alive. We are so grateful that Tony has more work to be done here on this earth. I feel so blessed and grateful for my God, my family and friends, and my life, which is so fragile. Trusting in the Lord is the only way peace and strength comes to us.

New Year 2009

Welcome 2009! I hope you all had a great New Year's Day!!
We had a great Christmas with everyone visiting!
On New Year's Day, most of us were sick with the 24 hour flu! I'm glad that's over.

On Sunday in RS, we had an excellent lesson. It was on goals, but in a new way. We need to be gentle with ourselves and look for the positive things about us and others and not make so many goals that we cannot attain them. I would like to be better about blogging and journalling my life for my children and myself. We can learn so much about ourselves when write and express our ideas and feelings. Maybe, sometimes I am a little afraid to share my thoughts. I hope you won't be too critical.
This last year and a half has been hard. We moved away from all our friends. I moved into a house that has been difficult to live in. I realized how hard it has been, because it showed with a weight gain. I didn't realize how depressed I was, but this is a new year and I am going to shed those pounds and reduce the amount of stuff in my house as well. Declutter house and self are the projects!!!

Swansboro High School Band

Sam was asked to play tuba this year. He did great! They performed "Pirates of the Caribbean" this season. It is very fitting since Swansboro High School students are Pirates! They won GRAND Champions!

Horse Riding Camps

Leiana went to two Horse backing Riding Camps this summer, Breezy Meadows in June and Equine Country in July. She loved it, and she's a natural!!!

Tim McGraw Concert

Melanie and I went to the Tim McGraw concert in Raleigh at the outdoor TWC Music Pavilion on Saturday, May 10th. She had only 2 tickets and she asked me. We had great seats!!! It was so good!!! James Aldean was his backup singer. He has some hits on the radio.

We went to Oahu, Hawaii April 23rd-30th. Sara, Tony's sister, was able to get us companion flight tickets because she works for the airport at a very small price to fly to Hawaii. Tony paid for me to go as a birthday present. April, Melanie, Michelle, Kelli, Sara, Grandma, and Sara's beau, Corey went on this great trip. We had the best time horseback riding, snorkeling, swimming, sun bathing, shopping, dinner cruising, Luau partying, sight-seeing, temple attending and visiting, church going, exploring the Polynesian Cultural Center, and of course, eating while being serenaded Hawaiian style.
